What Is Opside(IDE)?
Opside is a decentralized ZK-RaaS network of the form "Base chains <- Opside chain <- Rollups." It has the advantages of asset variety and infinite scalability, providing a friendly running environment for high-throughput web3 applications.
What Is IDE Token?
The allocation details for IDE (Opside token) are as follows: A maximum of 10 billion IDE will be minted. 10% is allocated for venture funding, 14% for the Opside team and contributors, and 15% for the community, which includes early testers, ecosystem project developers, and potential future airdrops. 28% is designated for the foundation to support ecosystem development, follow-up financing, and other purposes. The remaining 33% serves as rewards for validators and miners who provide data storage services, generate zero-knowledge proofs, maintain blockchains, and execute contracts.
- The Rewards of PoS - PoS rewards are based on an enhanced ETH 2.0 consensus. Validators stake IDE, verify new blocks, and can lose staked tokens for dishonest behavior. Opside plans to support EIP-4844 and Data Availability Sampling (DAS) for efficient verification.
- The Rewards of PoW - PoW rewards support ZK-Rollup hardware requirements through a unified ZKP computation marketplace. The Pre-Alpha phase has a fixed PoW reward share, but future workload estimates will determine individual pricing. To prevent attacks, a two-step ZKP submission mechanism is proposed, involving submitting the hash and ZKP separately. Prover staking and slashing are implemented to avoid malicious behavior. Provers must stake 100,000 IDE and face penalties for misconduct. Slashed IDEs are burned.
- Rollup Slot Rental for Developers - Opside offers developers a ZK-Rollup launch platform, with one-click Rollup slot registration. Developers pay rent to the Opside network, which is burned. In the Alpha testnet, additional ZKP subsidies will incentivize miners to supply computational power.
How Does Opside Work?
Opside proposes a 3-layer blockchain architecture, where Layer 2 is an EVM-compatible and rollup-friendly chain, and Layer 3 is composed of multiple zk-rollups. The chain makes many system-level optimizations for zk-rollups and introduces the concept of native rollup. Based on this architecture, Layer 2 gains asset variety from bridges and infinite scalability from rollups, providing a more friendly running environment for applications.
- Layer 1: zk-bridge: Opside has a zk-bridge between L1 public blockchains (like Ethereum and BNB chain) and Layer 2 Opside chain. The zk-bridge supports secure and trustless asset transfers between L1 and L2. The short-term solution for zk-bridge is to use on-chain oracle and off-chain zk state validity proofs, which double-check the correctness of the cross-chain state with high security.
- Layer 2: a rollup-friendly chain: Layer 2 is an EVM-compatible blockchain (called Opside chain) with optimizations to zk-rollups. We propose the idea of native rollups, which utilize rollup slots (some precompiled smart contracts) to integrate zk-rollups into the blockchain consensus. Therefore, the Opside chain's consensus is a hybrid of PoS and PoW. Opside uses a hybrid PoS & PoW consensus to address ZK-Rollup demands for ZKP computation. The network incorporates obsolete Ethereum miners, FPGAs, and GPUs, incentivizing participants with its economic model.
- Layer 3: rollup as a service: On Layer 3, zk-rollups will provide standalone, high-TPS, and low-gas execution environments to applications. They are suitable for high-throughput web3 applications like order book DEX, games, and social networks. Developers can run their applications on pre-deployed general-purpose rollups or launch their own application-specific rollups on rollup slots (with some economic models). Then applications are running fully on-chain without the concern about servers.
What Are the Advantages of Opside(IDE)?
- High security. With zk-bridge, the L2 Opside chain securely connects to L1. Then L3 zk-rollups inherit the security of L2. So the Opside 3-layer architecture has a high-security level guarded by zero-knowledge proofs.
- Infinite scalability. The entire system can be scaled infinitely by adding arbitrary rollups to L3. Users can use pre-deployed general-purpose rollups or launch their own application-specific rollups.
- Asset variety. By building bridges to multiple L1 blockchains, L2 and L3 can accept various assets from L1. Liquidity bridge is faster and cheaper, while zk-bridge is more secure, especially for large-amount transfers.
What Are the Use cases of Opside(IDE)?
A typical use case is to deploy games to L3 and use L2 as a marketplace for trading game items. In this way, players play different games in different rollups without a throughput burden to each other as well as to L2. Then they transfer game items to L2 for trading in a DEX or an NFT marketplace. Assets bridged from L1 can also participate in the trading. For example, players can sell game items to ETH or use ETH to buy these items.
