      What is Bitstamp?

Bitstamp is a centralized cryptocurrency exchange headquartered in Luxemburg.

Founded in 2011, Bitstamp is one of the oldest exchanges in Bitcoin trading. It provides reliable trading of cryptocurrencies based on a proven track record and a mature approach. The exchange was originally based in Slovenia but moved its registration location to the UK two years later due to a lack of adequate financial and legal services in Slovenia. Unfortunately, the UK crypto market has fallen short of the expectations of Bitmap's founders since the lack of guidelines and regulation for cryptocurrencies. In order to reassure customers about the security and legitimacy of the exchange, Bitstamp finally settled in Luxembourg, a crypto friendly and regulated country. In April 2016, the Luxembourg government granted Bitstamp a license, allowing it to be fully regulated in the EU as a payment institution. Currently, Bitstamp serves more than 4 million users worldwide with a daily transaction volume of $800 million.

Who is the Founder and CEO of Bitstamp?

Bitstamp was co-founded by Nejc Kodrich and Damian Merlak, and its current CEO is Julian Sawyer. Julian was the co-founder of Starling Bank and established an extensive career in traditional finance. In addition to becoming CEO of Bitstamp, Julian is also an adviser to the board of Volt, a leading challenger bank in Australia, and an honorary senior visiting scholar at the School of Management, School of Business, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

      Is Bitstamp Trustworthy?

In fact, Bitstamp experienced a serious hacking attack in year 2015, there were around 19,000 BTC were stolen, which amounts to approximately $95 million. The exchange was temporarily closed to resolve the issue and avoid future security breaches. Bitstamp immediately notified users that their accounts and balances would be frozen. Since then, Bitstamp is committed to designing a powerful and sophisticated security system to guarantee the safety of user accounts and assets. At present, it is considered a secure exchange with various security measures:

      • Two-factor authentication (2FA) when performing key account functions
      • Google Authenticator
      • Whitelisting and transaction confirmations
      • 98% of assets stored safely offline
      • Multiple signatures required
      • Highly encrypted personal data
      • Ledger Vault's technology that allows Bitstamp to control its cryptocurrency without affecting liquidity

Although security measures have been implemented by cryptocurrency exchanges, it cannot fully guarantee the security of users' funds. In addition to depositing funds on centralized cryptocurrency exchanges, users can also choose to transfer funds to reputable wallets to reduce risk. However, each method contains certain risks, users need to compare and choose the most appropriate one based on their specific conditions.

      Can U.S. citizens Use Bitstamp?

Bitstamp is a global cryptocurrency exchange that allows users from all over the world to open accounts, which means that everyone can trade cryptocurrencies and store them on Bitstamp without national restrictions. However, only certain countries can deposit money into Bitstamp accounts using debit or credit cards.
