      How to Mine Bells Coin? A Complete Guide

      中級 5分

      Recently, Bells, the cryptocurrency project initiated by Dogecoin founder Billy Markus, has been revived. In this article, we will try to introduce the history of Bells and how to mine it.

      What Is Bells Coin? What's the History of Bells?

      In 2013, Billy Markus, a software engineer at IBM who was obsessed with video games, created a cryptocurrency called Bells in his spare time, named after the currency used in the Nintendo game Animal Crossing.

      The main difference between Bells and ordinary cryptocurrencies was the rewards: they were completely random. If you mined Bitcoin with a decent home computer, the rewards were consistent. If you mined Bells, you didn’t know if the reward was one Bell or 500 Bells.

      Like Dogecoin, Bells was also a "joke" at first, intended as a video game-based digital currency that told the story of animals living in a village who went fishing together. But the cryptocurrency community didn't really get the joke.

      "People were just smashing it," Billy said, and he soon realized that there was little overlap between crypto enthusiasts and gamers. Disappointed, Billy decided to quit the cryptocurrency field, and then read Jackson Palmer’s message on dogecoin.com, "If you want to make Dogecoin a reality, please contact me," and then came the later Dogecoin. Dogecoin succeeded, and Bells was forgotten. However, recently two cryptocurrency practitioners have tried to revive Bells.

      How Bells Coin Revives and Became Popular?

      On December 5, the 10th anniversary of Dogecoin’s birth, Hot Sauce found Adam McBride, a marketing person for a crypto project, who said he saw Billy Markus’s 2013 post on X (Twitter) about Bells."

      Then, they found Billy Markus’s post on Bitcoin Talk on November 28, 2013, announcing the birth of BELLS, just eight days before the launch of Dogecoin.

      "They also discovered a BELLS community fork in March 2014, but it seemed to have died out in 2021, and the original BELLS blockchain had disappeared by the end of 2014. The two of them suddenly had a bold idea and contacted Uber developer and Litecoin ecosystem developer Luke, asking if they could connect some nodes to the original BELLS blockchain and figure out how to restart it. Luke only spent two hours to get the original code working, and BELLS saw the light of day again since 2014.

      In response, Billy Markus said, "This is interesting, because everyone used to think Bells was stupid." Like the first version, Bells mining rewards are random, and if you’re lucky, you can mine a block with up to 10,000 coins.

      In the past week, Adam said he had mined less than 1% of the supply, and there were less than 90 days left until the first halving, and he shared a mining tutorial. According to the information disclosed by Adam, BELLS now has more than 300 nodes running."

      How to Mine Bells Coin?

      • Step 3: In the new folder, click "bells-qt"

      • Step 4: The BELLS wallet and miner software are now loaded

      • Step 5: You need to access this location on your PC: C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Bells "{username}" is your username.

      • Step 6: You may not see the "AppData" folder, so click "View" and then "Show" and then select "Hidden Items" and "File Extensions", which will expose the "AppData" folder;

      • Step 7: Click AppData - Roaming - Bells

      • Step 8: Right-click to display options and select New, then click Text Document

      • Step 9: Set the document name to bells.conf and input the following content:

      "dns=1

      irc=1

      listen=1

      dnsseed=1

      daemon=1

      server=1

      rpcport=19918

      rpcuser=XXXX

      rpcpassword=XXXX"

      *Change "XXXX" to a username and password that only you know."

      • Step 10: Change "Threads" to 2 and click "Start Mining"

      Then you can start mining. However, there is one last step to avoid mining damage to your computer: open Task Manager, find "bells-qt.exe", click and select "Set Affinity", deselect all and select only two (2) processors, and then click OK.

      Where Can I Download Bells Mining Software?

      Conclusion

      The revival of Bells, the precursor of Dogecoin, is a testament to the power of curiosity and collaboration in the crypto space. Two enthusiasts, inspired by the original creator’s vision, managed to resurrect a long-forgotten project and give it a new lease of life. With more than 300 nodes running and a halving event approaching, Bells is once again attracting attention and interest from the crypto community. Whether it will achieve the same success as Dogecoin remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Bells is no longer a joke.
